    BELLVUE -- Funeral services were held this morning in Toledo for Robert H. Ross, 58, former resident of the city, and assistant superintendent of Toledo Schools in charge of business affairs. He died of a heart attack Saturday at his home, 3814 Doty Dr., Toledo.

    A native of New Carlisle, Ohio Ross was the son of the late Alfred and Kathryn Hensler Ross. He graduated from Bellevue High in 1924 where his father served as principal from 1918 to 1939.

    Survivors include his wife, the former Martha Rollman; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Rochelle, Cleveland, and Mrs. Betsy Hepp, Tonawanda, N.Y.; a brother, Dr. John Ross, Boston, Mass. and eight grandchildren.

Edward A. Byron Dies; Pioneered in Radio Drama

    WESTPORT (UPI) Funeral services for Edward Armour Byron of Westport, a pioneer in radio dramatic production, will be held Tuesday in Farmingdale, N.Y.

    Mr. Byron, 59, died Saturday of cancer in Veterans Hospital, West Haven.

    The creator of Mr. District Attorney which ran for 13 years on radio, Mr. Byron also was responsible for one of the first radio giveaway shows, Pot O' Gold.

    During World War II, Mr. Byron as Gen. Douglas MacArthur's radio officer and was responsible for establishing Radio Guinea, which put MacArthur on the air in New Guinea.

    After a few years as a newspaper reporter, during which time he worked for United Press, Mr. Byron entered radio seriously.

    He formed his own production company, Ed Byron Productions, and in 1960 joined the National Broadcasting Co. where he worked as an account executive in the special program sales department.

    In the spring of 1964, Mr. Byron left NBC for the American Broadcasting Co. where he worked on a series called Theater Five to try to bring back radio drama.

    He leaves his wife, the former radio actress Catherine McCune of Clark, Mo., and two sons, Christopher, 19, and Kevin, 17. [Burial is at Long Island National Cemetery.]

THOMPSON George D (Del), 80, died Thursday, May 28, 1981. Survived by wife, Frieda; brother, Clifford E. Thompson and sister, Thelma Thompson, both of Canton, OH. He had been affiliated with Holmes Tuttle Ford. Memorial Service 11 a.m., Monday, June 1, 1981, at ARIZONA MORTUARY UNIVERSITY CHAPEL (University at North Stone), with Dr. Dale E. Hewitt officiating. Private interment at TMP East Lawn. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Timothy J. McCarthy ~ 1904-1987

    Timothy J. McCarthy, 82, of 1031 Woodrow St., died Sunday at Bethesda Care Center where he had been a patient since Jan.2.

    He was the former owner of Pfisterer's Men's Clothing Store. He purchased the store in 1936 and retired in 1972.

    McCarthy was the last surviving charter member of the Fremont Exchange Club. He had been a member of the Fremont Police Pension Board and was a past president of the Fremont Country Club. A 1923 graduate of Fremont High School, he lettered in football at Ohio State University where he graduated in 1927.

    His wife Alice died in 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Grubs of Fremont; two sons, Tom McCarthy of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Mike McCarthy of Fremont; one sister, Kathryn Glasow of Elyria, and nine grandchildren.

    Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery.

    Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home.

    The family asks that donations be made to St. Ann Church.

    Gillig, Dr. Harold E., age 95, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, died January 25, 2001. He was born on October 11, 1905, in Ft. Recovery, OH and was educated at Ohio State University, Chicago College of Osteopathy, and the University of Toledo. Dr. Gillig became involved in community activities serving as Faithful Navigator of the West Toledo 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in the 1950's and was a current member of the Edward 0'Nell Assembly, Pompano Beach, FL. He was a Life Member of the Toledo Elka Lodge, 053, a life member of the Ohio State University Alumni, and the Ki-wanis Club of Greater Titusvllle, FL. He is survived by two daughtera, Carole Bell of Ft. Lauderdale and Mary Momsen of Sylvanla, OH; a brother, Carl Gillig and sister, Mildred Alge of St. Petersburg; grandchildren, Jason and Michael Bell of Ft. Lauderdale, Kimberly Bell of Lambertville, Ml, Bradley Bell of Atlanta, GA and James Momsen of Sylvania. OH; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 5 to 6 PM Sunday at the KRAEER FUNERAL HOME. 200 N. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, (954) 941-4111. There will be a Wake Service at 5 PM followed by a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Service at 6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Monday at St. Coleman Catholic Church of Pompano Beach. [Burial is at Whiteford Union Cemetery.]
