3 Druggists Face Charges of Illegal Barbiturate Sales
CLEVELAND -- Three Cleveland area druggists are to appear in municipal court today on charges of illegally refilling prescriptions for barbiturates. The charges yesterday followed a four-month investigation by state drug inspectors. Those charged are Louis Fish, 59, of University Heights, operator of a drug store on Wade Park Ave.; William Jackson, 34, of Eddy Rd., who has a store on E. 105 St., and Nelson Rosenberg. 63, of Novelty in Geauga County, who operates a store on Cedar Ave.Maximum penalty on conviction of the charge is a year in jail and a $500 fine. Convictions also could result in hearings before the state pharmacy board.
Then I found this in the Saturday, Oct. 16, 1965 edition of the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette:
DRUGGIST FINED
CLEVELAND (UPI) -- Louis Fish, 59, and William L. Jackson, 34, operator of local drug stores, were fined Friday for illegally refilling prescriptions for barbiturates.
I'm not certain if this is the same Louis Fish or not, but I believe it most likely is; his name, age, profession, and location all make it a strong possibility.
I rather hope it's not, but to end on a more humorous note I found this (four days after the first story!) in the Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1965 issue of the Willoughby News Herald:
Would-Be Gunmen Have No Taste For Box of CandyCLEVELAND -- Gunmen who tried to rob an East Side drug store were no match for a box of bandy last night.Police said Louis Fish, 59, owner of a drug store at 8137 Wade Park Ave., was confronted by four gun-carrying men who demanded money. One of them tried to open the cash register but it was locked.Fish grabbed a box of chocolates from the counter and threw it at the man. The box hit him in the head and the men ran out the front door. They sped away in a white automobile.
